Chevrolet ended the production of six generation of Camaro in 2023.
If you wait for the next Chevrolet Camaro, it might be best not to hold your breath.
According to a report from GM authorityThe next generation of Camaro might have stolen some bumps during a presentation of managers.
The report quotes an anonymous source that is familiar with the presentation that said that it was “blown apart” by the powers that are because of the weak business case.
This does not mean that Camaro’s nameplate goes the way of the Dodo.
The Chevrolet pony car has previously taken a sabbatical, in particular between the departure of the fourth generation in 2002 and the introduction of the fifth-gene car in 2010.
According to the GM authority Report, this non-so-green light for the Camaro stems from its potential profitability or lack of it.
The GM authority Report quotes predictions for sales volume and profit margins as the two bottlenecks. That is also not a big surprise, with relatively low sales numbers from the back of the run of the sixth generation Camaro.
Camaro sales in the US was fairly robust, with nearly 51,000 units already in 2018, but they walked away to less than 8,000 in 2023, when production ended.
The report says that a source in General Motors says that the company has not completely suspended the Camaro, and “it is still in the game.”
It is unclear what to expect from the next Camaro, as or when it shows his face. Last year GM president Mark Reuss hinted that the next generation of Camaro could arrive as a nice electric car.
Reuss also emphasized that Camaro would not remain a car and would not return as a battery-electric crossover.
Of course, without the Camaro or Dodge Challenger on the market, is the only pony car that remains Ford’s Mustang.
Now Dodge has a two -door version of the charger back on the menu, which can help bring the decision of General Motors about the return of the Camaro to the rotation.
